Investing in Safety?
Remote on/off control and stopping of your rotating blades
When it comes to safety, it pays to make the right investment. Afterall, injuries can be painful, and expensive as well! Push button control of the cutting blades on potentially dangerous equipment such as stump grinders, cutting blades, portable band saws, and mowers offers simple assembly, low total cost, safety and improved operator satisfaction. Not only can you control the starts and stops, but you can bring the cutting blades to a stop quicker with a clutch-brake.
With the exception of riding mowers, equipment using cutting blades are commonly found in the rental equipment market. This means that safety is even more critical as users might not be familiar with the proper handling and use.
In the past, no control, manual control, or speed dependent control might have been incorporated in the machine design. Centrifugal clutches are speed dependent meaning that when the engine gets up to speed, the clutch automatically engages to turn the implements. There is no way to keep the centrifugal clutch disengaged once it hits a certain speed. Alternately, there is no way to engage the clutch (or cutting tool) at slow speed. No control or manual control are not very user friendly and also can add an element of danger if located near the cutting blades.
With an electromagnetic pto clutch brake, engagement is performed when desired. Braking assist occurs when the clutch is disengaged. Just as importantly, the machine can also have additional safety measures such as operator presence controls. This would help keep limbs and body parts away from the cutting tool while the blades come to a stop.
Ogura GT series PTO clutch-brakes are made in a variety of configurations and typically mount on gas and diesel engines rated up to 40 HP. Bore sizes match the typical engine shaft sizes. Pulley sizes can vary based on machine requirements. Some have hub outputs to mount your own pulley, sprocket or coupling half. Clutch torque is rated up to 400 lb-ft on the larger units. These clutches typically operate on 12 or 24VDC.
