Need no-wear torque limiting or tensioning?

There are many applications that require fine control of torque, for torque limiting and tensioning. There are several solutions on the market, but there is one type that provides very accurate and consistent torque and doesn't wear out. Applications include bottle capping, medical diagnostic applications, wire, fiber, and film tensioning, unwind and rewind applications, and more.

The PHT series does not have friction surfaces that wear. The only friction items are the ball bearings. The torque is created by using a hysteresis ring and opposing magnets. As the ring rotates through the magnets, it creates drag.

The are several inherent concerns when using competing products on the market such as mechanical slip clutches. First, they wear. The friction is created by rubbing surfaces together. Every time the unit slips, it wears. Wear will cause changes in torque, and will result in reduced life and increased maintenance requirements.

The PHT unit also offers no contamination because there is no wear on the surfaces. They can be mounted either horizontally or vertically without any change in performance. They require no extra controls or power supplies.

PHT clutches and brakes range in torque from very low to 7 Nm / 62 lb-in. No power is required as torque is adjustable by changing the position of the opposing magnets. Torque is very accurate and stable.

Benefits you will see using Ogura PHT Series clutches and brakes:

  • Torque is created magnetically, so there is no frictional wear
  • Units are sealed to prevent unit contamination and contamination of machinery
  • Torque is consistent over a given speed range
  • Variable torque settings for machine flexibility
