Can I attach a coupling, pulley, or sprocket to my clutch? Clutches flexible to fit your application?

Sometimes we try to break the mold and design things a little bit differently. For machine designers, this might be to lower cost, increase throughput, improve quality, increase safety, or improve operator comfort. This means that the clutch location and assembly might vary. Well, there are clutches available that can be tailored to meet your special requirements. These clutches are often used in applications such as floor care equipment, hybrid drives, augers, seeders, pumping systems, powered hose reels, brushes, sprayers, mobile fans, and other ag and outdoor power equipment.

There are several series of General Purpose clutches being produced today that have a hub output. On this hub, you can mount a coupling half for use on an inline system. In fact, some clutches like the MMC series, have a bolt pattern that matches the coupling bolt pattern on standard universal drive shaft couplings. You could also mount your own pulley. Some equipment builders prefer to use custom pulleys or extra larger pulleys to operate their equipment at a max performance level. Insulation blowers and excavation trucks are good examples. You can mount your own sprocket if you run a chain drive system. Gas powered salt spreaders often use this type of design. If you want to use a General Purpose clutch as a brake, you could even lock the clutch's hub output into a rigid frame and use it as a power-on brake.

Ogura's GT and MA series of General Purpose clutches range in torque from around 110 lb-ft to 400 lb-ft for engines ranging from 5 HP to 40 HP. Bore sizes for most models correlate to popular engine shaft sizes of 1" to 1.7/16" but custom designs can be made for the right quantity. Most mobile application clutches have 12V coils but other voltages such as 24V can be available for certain sizes and quantities. Soft start controllers are available for these clutches.

Benefits of using an Ogura General Purpose clutch:

  • Long life
  • Safety
  • Built for outdoor operation
  • Fuel and energy savings
  • Remote starting option
  • Many years of proven success
  • For use with operator presence controls
  • Available with a soft start controller
  • Custom designs available based on minimum order quantities
  • Reduced engine load on cold weather starts
  • Increased operational life of driven equipment
