What’s the skinny on wheel drive brakes?
Ogura parking brakes are super thin.
Let's face it, gravity just won't forget us. With the growth of mobile robotics, e-vehicles, and other cargo transport, parking brakes are becoming more of an essential safety item. It is especially important when slopes are involved or cargo is critical and expensive.
The design approach can vary. Some companies integrate the brake + motor + gearbox + wheel hub on their own. Others spec a motor + brake and bolt the other components together. Lastly, some companies source everything as a package., especially if this is outside of their traditional "wheelhouse." Regardless, Ogura can help and advise throughout the design process. It is best to consult with us early on in the design to obtain the best meet your overall goals.
While Ogura has many options and thousands of existing designs, a common series for reference is the RNB-T series with static torque ranging up to about 36.9 lb-ft (50Nm). Larger models are available as well. Most brakes with considerable torque will have manual release bolt holes to use in the event of service or loss of power. Models can be customized to address environmental factors. Various coil voltages can be offered to me your application requirements. With size often a constraint, the super thin RNB-T series is a good place to start your search. To save most space and offer premium environmental protection, Ogura can also integrate the brake into the motor end bell.
