Because of the higher engine speeds and the higher operating speeds of engine drive components (pumps, compressors, generators, etc.) Ogura has developed electromagnetic clutches to handle these higher speed engagements. Typical under hood requirements for air conditioning and pump clutches normally have a maximum speed of 6,000 RPM. To accommodate the higher speed requirements of some component drives, Ogura has developed models that have embedded friction material in the rotor of the clutch. This addition of friction material helps to reduce the steel to steel pressure between the armature and the rotor and reduce the chance of galling. These changes have allowed engagement speeds of up to 12,000 RPM. Clutches are typically two piece designs with no bearing in the field assembly, which helps to both reduce cost and allow for increases in running speed. By using the high speed Ogura electromagnetic clutch, the driven component only runs when required. This helps increase component life but more importantly helps to improve fuel economy of the vehicle. Engine driven accessory drives like alternators, water pumps, air pumps, air conditioning compressors and so forth can benefit from the addition of an electromagnetic clutch. Ogura has been producing clutches and brakes since 1938. Over that time, we have developed over 5,000 different models of clutches and brakes. Although Ogura primarily produces electromagnetic clutches and brakes, we also produce magnet particle, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and a variety of specialty products. Ogura is the world's largest manufacturer of electromagnetic clutches and brakes. Current manufacturing capacity is over 30 million units per year. To provide localized support, we have fourteen manufacturing plants spread throughout the world in Asia, The Americas, and Europe. All manufacturing facilities are ISO recognized and conform to the ISO 9001;2008, ISO 140001, and ISO/TS 16949.
